As a Trainee Assistant Estimator, you’ll be supported to learn, develop and grow within our Estimating team, building the skills needed for a long‑term career at Taylor Wimpey.

About the Trainee Scheme
You’ll support the Estimating function by assisting with the preparation of cost information for land purchase exercises and development appraisals, helping materials and labour costs to be understood at an early stage under the guidance of a Senior Estimator.
- You’ll assist in the timely completion of estimating work to support the business unit, learning established estimating processes, standards and systems.
- You’ll help prepare and present estimating information for project teams and senior management, ensuring accuracy and clarity while developing your technical and commercial understanding.
- You’ll work within Taylor Wimpey’s Operating Framework and CDM processes, building knowledge, competence and professional capability through on‑the‑job learning and formal training.
The Programme
The Trainee Programme is a structured development pathway lasting between two and four years, depending on your entry level and progression. It combines the on the job experience with formal training to build the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to step into the Assistant Estimator role.
Throughout the programme, you will:
- Complete a two-year professional skills course at our dedicated Training Hub in Solihull.
- Follow a structured development plan with clear milestones for salary progression.
- Take part in regular reviews with your line manager to track progress and identify growth opportunities.
- Gain exposure to other departments across Taylor Wimpey.
- Join the Early Talent community as a programme ambassador, representing Taylor Wimpey at careers fairs and school events.
- Have the opportunity to apply for the Kings Trust Million Makers programme
Job requirements
- A degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction, Engineering, Maths, or a related discipline
- A driving license or an ability to get to remote site locations independently
- A willingness to travel around your business unit area
- You must have the Full Right to Work in the UK.
