About the Trainee Scheme
- Work alongside experienced professionals to gain the skills and experience needed to become a qualified Designer
- Help design places people love to live, from homes to open spaces and community hubs
- Gain experience across key design areas including Health, Safety & Environment, Planning & Community Engagement, Design & Pre-Development, and On-Site & Development Support
Hands-on experience includes:
- Understanding environmental constraints and designing safe, sustainable spaces
- Supporting design risk assessments and CDM compliance
- Preparing planning applications and documents
- Engaging with local communities and assisting with layouts and house types
- Coordinating external consultants and design tenders
- Preparing working drawing packages for residential and community spaces
- Attending and supporting design team meetings
- Securing Building Regulation approvals
- Visiting sites to resolve design issues and ensure project accuracy
- Reviewing and supporting technical sales literature
- Maintaining quality and consistency across the design process
The Programme
The Trainee Programme is a structured development pathway lasting between two and four years, depending on your entry level and progression. It combines on-the-job experience with formal training to build the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to step into the Assistant Designer role.
Throughout the programme, you will:
- Complete a two-year professional skills course at our dedicated Training Hub in Solihull.
- Follow a structured development plan with clear milestones for salary progression.
- Take part in regular reviews with your line manager to track progress and identify growth opportunities.
- Gain exposure to other departments across Taylor Wimpey.
- Join the Early Talent community as a programme ambassador, representing Taylor Wimpey at careers fairs and school events.
- Have the opportunity to apply for the Kings Trust Million Makers programme
Job requirements
- 2:1 degree in Architecture (RIBA or CIAT accredited)
- Architecture degree that is RIBA or CIAT accredited
- A Full UK Driving License or an ability to get to remote site locations independently.
- Willingness to travel between sites and around your business unit area.
- You must have a Full Right to Work in the UK.
